Carl Edwards Aiming for Richmond Fall Three-Peat in Friday Night's Virginia 529 College Savings 250
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Stars Stand in Edwards' Way
Kyle Busch, driving the #18 Kimmy car, and a host of Sprint Cup Series stars will race Friday night in the Virginia 529 College Savings 250.
Edwards has been to Gatorade Victory Lane after each of the last two fall NASCAR Nationwide Series races at Richmond International Raceway, but an impressive list of his fellow Sprint Cup drivers including Chesterfield, Virginia native Denny Hamlin, defending series champion Kyle Busch and four-time Richmond winner Kevin Harvick will attempt to snap Edwards’ September streak. The list of Sprint Cup Series drivers competing in Friday night’s Virginia 529 College Savings 250 also includes current series points leader Brad Keselowski, Ryan Newman, Clint Bowyer, Elliott Sadler and Paul Menard.
Leveling the playing even more, tomorrow night’s short-track showdown “under the lights” marks the first appearance of the new NASCAR Nationwide Series car at Richmond International Raceway. The cars debuted at Daytona in July and also ran at Michigan last month. The new models feature the Ford Mustang and Dodge Challenger, as well as the sportier models of the Chevrolet Impala and Toyota Camry.
The Virginia 529 College Savings 250 is always one of the most exciting stops on the NASCAR Nationwide Series stop, mixing Sprint Cup Series stars with the up-and-comers and veterans of the series in an old-school shootout “under the lights.”
Leading up to Friday night’s race, there is a full-day of on-track activity included with Friday’s ticket. The Nationwide Series will start the day with its final practice, followed by Sprint Cup Series practice, WRIC-TV8 Pole Qualifying for the Nationwide Series and Fas Mart Pole Qualifying for the Sprint Cup Series practice. Additionally, children 12 and under are admitted free in General Admission sections on Friday with a paid adult.
Tickets are on sale now and start at $30 for General Admission seating. Advance reserved seats are $40. Tickets at the gate on Friday are $35 (General Admission) and $45 (Reserved). To purchase tickets call 866-455-7223 or click here.
The Post-9/11 GI Bill NASCAR Weekend at Richmond continues on Saturday night with the Air Guard 400, which is “One Last Race to Make The Chase.” Tickets are available for the Air Guard 400, with a very limited number of $40 tickets still remaining. For tickets and information to both races, click here or call 866-455-7223.
