Elliott Sadler Tours Strike Fighter Squadron Eighty One at Naval Air Station Oceana
Sitting atop the NASCAR Nationwide Series points standings, Sadler knows it takes great team work to have a championship team. Today he learned just how big of a team effort it is to serve in the United States Navy.
“It’s not everyday you get to come and see this behind the scenes,” said Sadler. “These men and women here are the real heroes. They’re the reason why we get to do what we do week in and week out as race car drivers. I think NASCAR, as a sport, does a great job of recognizing the military – all the men and women who protect us.”
In town to promote the NASCAR “One Last Race to Make The Chase” weekend at Richmond International Raceway September 7-8, Sadler talked about his love for America’s Premier Short Track, just 17 days prior to the Virginia 529 College Savings 250 NASCAR Nationwide Series race.
“Richmond International Raceway is definitely home to us,” said Sadler, who hails from nearby Emporia. "A lot of fans come from southside Virginia and support me. I’d rather win there than anywhere. I want to get in victory lane at RIR bad. I think the first time my parents took me to RIR I was 3 months old. I was there the day they changed it from a ½-mile to a ¾-mile race track. A lot of my family still has seats on the straightaway, top row, right at the start-finish line.”
Sadler and the NASCAR Nationwide Series return to Richmond International Raceway Friday, September 7, for a full day of on-track activity highlighted by the Virginia 529 College Savings 250 NASCAR Nationwide Series race “under the lights.” A great family-friendly option, advance tickets start at $30 with children 12 and younger admitted free with a ticketed adult in general admission sections.
