FAQ's

We have a lot going at America's Premier Short Track, and even more in store for 2017. To help our fans navigate some of the changes and policies at RIR, we've compiled a list of answers to frequently asked questions to help fans learn what they can expect on their visit.

Can I take a tour of the track?

Yes, tours are available during regular business hours excluding holidays. Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tours are free, however, we do accept donations to our charity RIR Cares.

Is there special pricing for servicemen, groups, or kids?

We offer special pricing for military members for our NASCAR XFINITY Series races and a military appreciation package for our Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race.

Is there free parking during race weekend?

Yes, RIR offers free general admission parking and ADA parking in select lots on our property. For more information regarding parking, please click here

When does the shuttle run on race weekend?

The Downtown Shuttle from the 7th Street Parking Deck is adjacent to the Richmond Coliseum. The shuttle runs continuously starting at 2:00 p.m. through post-race. The shuttle is free, however, parking deck fees apply. The 7th Street Parking Deck is conveniently located less than five minutes from the intersections of I-95 and I-64.

How do we find the best place to sit?

We recommend visiting our 3D Seating Chart or “The Best Seat in the House” piece. 

What is the race weekend schedule?

The event schedule is shared on our website a week before an upcoming race weekend. 

When does food in the midway close?

Food and partner displays begin breaking down at the start of the day’s race. We recommend arriving to the track early, so you can partake in all our Midway has to offer. 

Where is handicap seating and entry locations?

Handicap seating is available in the Veranda Platform, Dogwood Grandstands, Dogwood Tower, Colonial Platform, and Commonwealth Tower. All grandstand entrances have a ramp or elevator for ADA guests to access their seats.

How do we request emergency assistance?

In case of an emergency, call the following phone numbers on race weekends: 
  • 804-228-7576 from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. 
  • 804-370-3022 from 11:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. 
Fans can also text 69050 for emergency support. In the body of the text message, type RIRFAN and a space. After the space, type your need, emergency and/or issue and location.

Why was the spring race moved to run during the day?

Our spring races were shifted to the day to allow more families to attend our race weekend. RIR is about creating memories that will last for generations. An afternoon race provides a better opportunity for families to attend.

When are driver appearances ad autograph sessions during race weekend?

Driver appearances and autograph sessions vary from event to event. We will announce appearances or autograph sessions as they are scheduled.

What happened to the Post-Race Party?

As we worked to improve the guest experience, we collaborated with NASCAR on Fan Appreciation Weekend to allow for more drivers to engage directly with fans at Gridside Live!.

Where did the souvenir haulers go?

The Fanatics merchandise tent has replaced the souvenir haulers. It’s an open-air tent that allows fans to touch, feel, and try-on merchandise before making a purchase.

What happens if a race is delayed or rescheduled due to weather?

Any updates or changes made to the schedule will be announced by NASCAR and RIR on all available online channels (website, social media, email, etc.). You can also receive updates by texting RIRUPDATES to 69050.

Is smoking allowed at the track?

There is no smoking allowed in the grandstands. There are dedicated smoking areas around the track. If you are unsure where to go, please see an usher.

Can we bring a cooler into the track?

Yes, coolers are allowed in the grandstands. They must be no larger than 14”x14”x14” and have to be soft-sided. No glass containers are permitted inside the grandstands.
