Tony Kanaan Wins Eighth Annual SunTrust Indy Challenge

Tony Kanaan started on the pole and erased some demons by winning tonight's SunTrust Indy Challenge "under the lights" at Richmond International Raceway. Kanaan had the hardest crash of his career only six days ago in Iowa, and had never won at this track even when he had some dominant cars in previous years. It was the first IndyCar Series win of the season for Kanaan.

    Tony Kanaan Wins Pole For SunTrust Indy Challenge

    Andretti Green Racing teammates worked together Friday evening resulting in Tony Kanaan and Marco Andretti locking up the front row for tomorrow's SunTrust Indy Challenge IndyCar Series race at Richmond International Raceway. Kanaan won the pole award over Andretti by a mere 0.0309sec on their 4-lap qualifying runs and will lead the field to green tomorrow night "under the lights" at America's Premier Short Track.

    Veteran Chet Fillip Takes James River Grounds 100 Win

    USAC veteran Chet Fillip used experience to win the K & N USAC Silver Crown Series James River Grounds 100 at Richmond International Raceway Saturday afternoon. Fillip started all the way back in 10th position. The veteran showed his hand earlier in the day though when he posted the fastest practice time.

    Jerry Coons Jr. Wins USAC National Sprint Car Series "Showdown at Sundown"

    Jerry Coons Jr. won the 60-Lap USAC National Sprint Car Series "Showdown at Sundown" at Richmond International Raceway Friday night. He started on the outside front row, only to see Shane Hmiel grab an early lead. Coons Jr came back to take the lead just before the half way mark and held on through the second 30-lap portion of the race for the win.

    IndyCar Practice, Sprint Car Qualifying Rained Out

    The remainder of today's IndyCar Series practice, as well as USAC National Sprint Car Series qualifying at Richmond International Raceway has been canceled due to inclement weather. As of 4:45 p.m. ET, all on-track activity is scheduled to resume as planned, beginning with USAC Silver Crown Qualifying for the James River Grounds 100 race at 6:15 p.m. ET. IndyCar Series Pole Qualifying is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. ET, as part of NBC12 Day. Additionally, the USAC National Sprint Car Series race is scheduled to begin at 8:50 p.m. ET, as originally planned. The IndyCar Series autograph session will still be held in the Commonwealth Building at 5:45 p.m. ET. Stay tuned to rir.com for further updates.
