Tony Kanaan Tops Final Practice
#11 Andretti Green Racing driver Tony Kanaan topped all of his competitors in the final moments of practice this afternoon. His lap of 15.6093 seconds (172.974 mph) was the fastest lap turned all day and set the stage for a thrilling qualifying session. Two-time and defending race winner Sam Hornish Jr., driving the #6 Team Penske machine, posted the second fastest time, 0.0628 seconds behind Kanaan. Marco Andretti, who stood at the top of the speed charts for most of the session, had the third best lap of 15.6894 seconds (172.091 mph). Dan Wheldon (#10 Target Chip Ganassi Racing), fastest driver in the earlier practice sessions, was the fourth fastest car of the session. Scott Dixon, in the #10 Target Chip Ganassi Racing machine was fifth fastest, followed by Andretti Green Racing's Danica Patrick. These drivers are the favorites to claim the pole position for tomorrow's IndyCar® Series SunTrust Indy Challenge presented by XM at Richmond International Raceway.
The afternoon session was interrupted once when series rookie Milka Duno crashed her #23 CITGO Racing machine exiting turn 4. She was checked and released from the infield care center. Vitor Meira in the #4 Delphi Panther did not participate in this session due to damage suffered in the morning session.
